New Extra Care Home becomes a ‘Role Module’ in South Wales

RPA are delighted to announce another successful project completion on behalf of Linc Cymru HA which saw the delivery of 40 state of the art Extra Care apartments. What makes this development extra special is that the apartments were constructed using a Modern Method of Construction (MMC), which saw the apartments being constructed via a Modular method. Modular construction is where multiple high quality, energy efficient sections or boxes, known as modules, are joined together on site. Each module was manufactured in a factory in Mid Wales before being transported to the building site.

The £7m Extra Care development is located on the site of the former Maesyffynon Care Home in Aberaman near Aberdare. Appointed again in the roles of Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyor, work involved the construction of 40 No Extra Care apartments along with communal facilities and associated external works.

RPA’s roles spanned the life of the project from undertaking early stage feasibility, the appointment of the design team; managing negotiations with the main contractor and through to completion of the project including end of defects period. This is the first of five brand new Extra Care facilities Linc Cymru are delivering across Rhondda Cynon Taf, as part of a £50m investment which will increase the total number of Extra Care beds to 300. Works is well under way on the site of the 2nd Extra Care Home is Pontypridd, located on the site of the Magistrates Courts with a completion date of June 2021.
